WHAT IS TRX?
The TRX training is a system consisting of perform suspension exercisesThe hands or feet are supported at an anchor point while the rest of the body rests on the ground.
The TRX is a simple and lightweight tool. It can weigh between half and two kilograms. Packed up it takes up almost no space. It is like a portable gym that can be set up almost anywhere: at home, in a tree, in a playground, in a park...
In this type of training, the following is achieved exercise every muscle taking advantage of your body weight. The system by which this training is performed can be fastened at almost any point, which favors that TRX can be performed anywhere.
What is the history of TRX?
The TRX was invented by Randy Hetrick. Randy was serving his military service in a special team of the U.S. Marine Corps in Navy SEAL (abbreviation for SEa, Air and Land) when in 1997 in Southeast Asia due to the lack of exercises, he put an old jiu jitsu belt on the door and started doing exercises using his own body weight.
When he became the SEAL captain, he was looking for some solution to be able to do exercises in a small place (e.g. on ships or submarines) to keep the soldiers fit without tools. At first they tied parachute belts with rubber tools that they normally used to fix the ship.
Randy graduated in 2001, created TRX and his business called Fitness Anywhere Inc.
TRX and its training quickly spread through gyms and among various professional teams in the U.S. such as the NHL (field hockey) and then around the world.Randy graduated in 2001, created TRX and his business called Fitness Anywhere Inc.

What science has to say about TRX
TRX has been around for nearly two decades, starting with a jiu jitsu belt and some parachute straps, and now has a full training and movement system. If you're looking for some science to see how TRX can help you improve your fitness and strength, here's a summary of what some of the studies involving TRX have found:
The benefit of instability
The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research conducted a 2014 study analyzing how adding instability to exercises can help improve core muscles. TRX outperformed many stable exercises for core muscles and had comparable results for stable exercises involving other muscle groups, primarily the upper body.
Muscle activation
The Australian Fitness Network analyzed the effectiveness of suspension training through EMG or electromyography, which records how much electrical activity is created by skeletal muscles. Specifically, favorable results were reported for muscle activation in the trunk and torso. Those suffering from low back pain may be best helped through TRX suspension training. TRX can also improve cardiovascular health, although not as effectively as other types of exercise.
Another muscle activation study of the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research also used EMG to see how the TRX worked with a variety of plank exercises. The study focused on 4 muscles: the rectus abdominis, external oblique, rectus femoris, and serratus anterior muscles. By creating more instability by using the TRX suspension system, the muscles tested engaged more than with a normal plank exercise position.
Seniors using TRX
As noted above, TRX can be used by many populations, including older adults. This study in the International Journal of Exercise Science examined whether TRX use was feasible for the elderly. Most participants after the study said they were motivated to continue using TRX, primarily reporting strength gains.
