Johny Hendricks culminated his MMA career on June 27, emphasizing his desire to dedicate his life to a new aspect of his career but this time as a coach. Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks will return to professional competition less than a year after retiring, dropping the 4-ounce MMA gloves to fight in the World Bare Knuckle Fighting Federation.
The particularity of the fights of WBKFF is that they are "bare-knuckle" fights. The participants do not fight with gloves but with bandages covering their knuckles.
Hendricks (18-8) fought in the UFC after losing his welterweight title to Robbie Lawler in late 2014, and managed just two wins in his last seven fights for the promotion. His last fight was against Paulo Costa in November 2017, losing by technical knockout in the second round.
Like Ward (14-6) also recently announced his retirement from MMA after he was forced to pull out of his scheduled fight against Andre Fialho in Bellator. The veteran of Bellator MMAonce challenged for the middleweight title against Alexander Shlemenko, but lost by submission.
The WBKFF will fight this bout the next November 9at the Casper Events Center in Wyoming.
