Boxing Mittens

The mitt is one of the most important tools used by the coach for technical and tactical preparations. Its practice depends on different stages of the athlete's preparation, in the general preparation stage the combinations should not exceed three strokes. In the special stage, three or four strokes and in the competitive stage, more than four strokes.

You should start with straight punches, for example straight left to the face and straight right to the face. Then, these blows can be combined with hooks and crosses, always taking into account the stages of preparations, these combinations once perfected can be executed with different rhythms. Finally, you can add defenses and counterattack that make the work with mitts more complicated.

As for the combined blows, it is important to keep in mind the direction of the distance, for example in long distance, the straight blows with steps, in the medium distance the straight blows, crosses and hooks. In the short distance, hooks and crosses.

About the technique and tactics, we can say that the technique is divided into 5 elements which are combat parry, displacements, blows, defenses and combinations of blows. While the tactic is divided into 3 elements: Offensive Action, Defensive Action and Combat Distance.

How to choose boxing mitts?

There are two basic types of boxing mitts, which must be taken into account when making a purchase. Depending on the training to be performed, they should be flat mitts or curved mitts.

Flat mittens

This type of mitts are held with the hand almost straight and extended. Depending on their placement, they can receive all kinds of blows, either with the fists or the legs.

They are usually used in the training of novices who are starting in the world of boxing or in any of the different modalities of contact sports. Perfectly absorbs all types of punches and combinations: hooks, straight punches and kicks.

Curved mittens

Curved boxing mitts have, as their name indicates, a slight curvature towards the center of the glove. The intention of this is to focus the fighter's blows, so it is usually used with more experienced athletes. Because these will be received with greater force.

These are not intended to receive straight blows, but rather to cushion more professional blows and more technical movements.
